Performing minor surgery in NHS Primary Care?
NHS Primary Care Practitioners wishing to perform (and get paid for) surgical procedures under the Minor Surgery Directly Enhanced Service (“the Minor Surgery DES”) must submit evidence of appropriate ongoing training, including confirmation that a Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) Assessment has taken place.
The course includes a DOPS Assessment, which will be noted on your Certificate of Completion. This can then be submitted to your local/regional commissioners, so that you can remain accredited to perform these procedures under the Minor Surgery DES. This training usually needs to be renewed every 2-3 years.

Before the course you will receive online access to our highly regarded Minor Surgery Resource Area, which includes:

Will this course allow me to practice independently?
The Minor Surgery Course will cover all the practical elements, techniques and guidance required to perform Minor Surgery. However, like most CPD Courses, it is not a postgraduate qualification or diploma level course, and does not on its own qualify healthcare professionals to practice minor surgery independently afterwards.
The training requirements to practice minor surgery independently vary both between and within professions; some require higher education (i.e. a diploma), some require CPD training such this course, followed by employer competency based assessment/skills sign-off, and some (generally independent practitioners & Doctors) require our training, supported by local mentorship, reflective practice, audit and appraisal.
If you are not a prescriber, you will also need arrangements for the local anaesthetic to be prescribed prior to treatment. This would need to be under a Patient Group Directive or Patient Specific Direction
We have Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, and other NMC/HCPC professions attending, either to gain an excellent foundation in Minor Surgery, or as a CPD refresher/up-skill for existing practitioners. We use simulation models and skin rather than real patients, and so there are no specific eligibility criteria for attending the course.
Can trainees and junior doctors attend?
Yes! We are always delighted to have trainees, medical students, FYs & STs attending our Minor Surgery Course. You’ll find it an excellent introduction to these skills.
How can my employer pay for me?
The fastest way to secure your minor surgery course place is to use a credit/debit card to purchase your course via our website. You could either pay yourself and claim back from your employer, or they could make the purchase on your behalf using a company credit card.
If your employer wishes to make payment via bank transfer, and requires an invoice from us, then please add the desired course to your cart, and select the ‘Pay By Invoice‘ option at the checkout page.

At checkout please ensure you submit the correct Billing Details for your employer. Please also ensure you submit any Purchase Order Number, if provided to you by your employer. Purchase Order Numbers are often required by large NHS Organisations.
We will complete your order and email your tickets once funds have cleared in our account.
