Team

Dr Mike Smith MBBS MRCS(Eng) MRCGP

Mike is a GP Partner in Knebworth. He has also held many senior NHS leadership roles across primary, secondary and community care. He has been lecturing for nearly 15 years and having made the switch from plastic surgery to General practice many years ago, continues to perform enhanced minor surgical procedures in his practice. He wrote our minor surgery course with a plastic surgery colleague having identified the need for a fresh, new punchy approach to teaching. Between teaching and clinical commitments, he consults across the UK on how new models of care have to be wrapped around strong primary care networks. He also runs the popular NHS Podcast, The Placemat. He tries to be an optimist despite the pressures otherwise. He spends most of his free time with his family, his friends and at Rugby, not always in that order.

Dr Duncan Hill MRCS MRCGP

Duncan has extensive surgical experience, having trained in general surgery and neurosurgery before becoming a GP. He has interests in muscular-skeletal medicine and is a Minor Surgery GPwSI, performing Carpal Tunnel Decompressions, etc. He is a senior trainer for Medical Skills Courses, and the Clinical Lead for an extended Minor Surgery services in Walsall.​ He also likes the occasional triathlon.

Nicholas Lyne MSc MCSP

Nic is an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner. He has spent 20 years working alongside Orthopaedic Surgeons, Rheumatologists and Pain Consultants at the Royal Free NHS Trust. During his last post in London he was the Clinical Lead for Camden MSK, a hugely successful single point of access service covering North London. Nic now works as the Lead First Contact Practitioner for Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, bringing his extensive knowledge and experience into Primary Care. He does not follow myths, trends or historical practice with musculoskeletal medicine, but instead he seeks swift, evidence based and equitable treatment for all his patients.

Prof Mike Whitehouse BSc MBChB MSc PhD FRCS (Tr&Orth), PGCert (TLHE) FHEA

Mike is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Professor of Trauma & Orthopaedics at the University of Bristol, Head of School for Clinical Academic Training HEE South West & Bristol Medical School. He is a strong advocate of helping patients find ways to best address their symptoms rather than focusing on surgery as the only way to solve problems. He has published over 200 research papers and held research grants of over £5 million as lead, and £10 million as co-applicant including research into the use of joint injections

Tara Potier MSc MCSP

Tara is a Senior University Lecturer and Researcher at Brunel University. She works clinically as an Extended Scope Physiotherapist at Homerton University Hospital. She is qualified in MSK Injection Therapy, Independent Prescribing, and is a member of the Higher Education Academy. She is peer reviewed and formally reviewed by the Education Excellence group at Brunel annually, to ensure her teaching continues to be of the highest standard. She is also a published author.

Dr David Shutt MB ChB MRCS MRCGP

David has a wealth of surgical experience, having completed the Yorkshire surgical rotation and then further trained in Orthopaedics in Manchester and Leeds. He has been a GP since 2010 and a Medical Skills tutor since 2014. He is currently the Medical Director of a GP Federation in Barnsley, and practices extended minor surgery in Huddersfield. He is competent in the full range of minor surgical procedures and joint injections, and has a special interest in carpal tunnel surgery.

Emma Jones BSc MCSP

Emma is an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner and Upper Limb Clinical Specialist. She treats complex shoulder conditions within the Leeds Musculoskeletal Service and Leeds Teaching Hospitals, alongside the Upper Limb Orthopaedic Consultants. She is a CASE accredited ultrasonographer and uses these skills for diagnostics and ultrasound guided injection therapy. She has been qualified in MSK injection therapy since 2008, and is also an Independent Prescriber.
